This is mostly the first wave of the undead when approaching. In some cases even those who where already burried awakened. Because of its only wish to eat the living it will never stop following a survivor. Even if the survivor is much faster the Zombie has no need for pausing what can make him a serious issue. This aspect is sometimes so widely expanded that the Zombis are barely agressive just when standding right next to them. Then the pure mass of Zombies makes it impossible to enter some places, what prisons the survivors and cuts them off from supplies.
There surely exists the opposite extreme too, of running Zombies with a grown out killer instinct. In this cases the Zombie density is about 10 to 100 times lower compared to the slow Zombie masses. It is important that a Zombie may run, but has never some kind of speed boost. Those are always some kind of demonic creatures.
To summarize the properties of the standard Zombie masses, they mostly block places and ways. It is rare that a single Zombie kills a survivor. The need of the survivors to get supplies makes it impossible not to get the attention of the Zombie masses which will in effect follow them to their base.
This kind of Zombie is generally killed by removing the Head or damaging the Brain. The brain activity is lowered or it is completely inactive but it seems still necessary for the Zombie.
